Carita Miller's journey in the music industry is a testament to her passion, dedication, and deep understanding of the business behind the music. As an independent music professional, Carita has carved out a multifaceted career that spans various aspects of the industry. She manages a podcast, oversees the careers of multiple artists, and holds the esteemed title of Music Editor at Beautiful Machine Magazine. Carita is also preparing to take on a leadership role as the head of the music department at Mainstreem Media, where her industry expertise and leadership skills will be on full display. Additionally, she has independently music supervised over 15 movies to date, showcasing her versatility and deep understanding of the industry.
Carita's foundation in the entertainment world began at a young age when she performed as a dancer on a Detroit TV show, eventually leading to opportunities on television, radio, and in commercials. Her early exposure to the industry, combined with a natural talent for identifying musical potential, enabled her to make significant contributions, including introducing the R&B group H-Town to their first national TV debut on BET. Drawing inspiration from her mother, Montez Miller, a producer at BET, Carita cultivated her skills in various roles, including working as an assistant to Lisa Coleman's promotions manager at Arista Records and interning at WJLB, Detroit's leading urban radio station.
Balancing her professional endeavors with the responsibilities of single motherhood, Carita exemplifies resilience and commitment. Her pursuit of excellence is reflected in her educational achievements. She holds a degree in video production from Specs Howard School of Broadcast Arts and is currently in her third year of a music business program at Berklee College of Music Online, where she maintains a stellar 3.9 GPA. This academic foundation, combined with her hands-on experience, positions Carita as a knowledgeable and influential figure in the music business.
Throughout her career, Carita has successfully navigated various facets of the industry, from artist management to music curation for films such as "Black Strait Blues," "Corruption," and "Justice." Her deep understanding of the business side of music, coupled with her creative vision, allows her to guide projects that resonate with both artists and audiences alike.
Carita's passion for the music business drives her to create innovative and impactful work, earning her respect and admiration in the competitive world of music. She is an associate member of the Guild of Music Supervisors, a member of Women in Music & Women in Film, a member of She Is The Music, a member of the California Copyright Conference, a member of the National Association of Black Female Executives in Music & Entertainment, and recently became a voting member of the Recording Academy class of 2024.
